The National Holidays (Clarification) Act

The Eighteenth of August, Twenty-Hundred and Two

 

AN ACT to correct the National Holidays Act 2002 to reflect historical accuracy and to update the said act.

 

Should it be enacted by the will of the majority of the people of the Great Commonwealth of the Ibrosian Democracy, this Bill shall be passed into law with the particulars stated herein:

 

Section One – Clarification of Dates

 

1.     (1) – Article II of the National Holidays Act 2002 shall be amended to read as demonstrated in Schedule One of this Act.

(2) – Article III of the National Holidays Act 2002 shall be amended to read:

 

“The Wéthenágemoté and the National Executive, with the exception of essential services shall vacate their employment for the first two weeks of July, beginning on the first Monday of that month and from December 22nd to January 3rd.”

 

2.     (1) – Any other day may be granted status as a National Holiday by statutory instrument enacted by the Great Commonwealth Prime Minister of Parliament, in consul with his Secretary of State.

 

Section Two – Clarification of Status

 

1.     (1) –  A “National Holiday” shall be considered to be as defined in the National Holidays Act and Section 1(1) of this Act and shall have the status defined within Section 2(2).

 

2.     In the event of a statutory National Holiday arising:

- (1) The Great Commonwealth National Flag as defined in the Constitution Act 2001, Appendix B shall be flown from all Great Commonwealth and Provincial Government buildings with a flagstaff.

- (2) All Great Commonwealth schools remain closed for the duration of the day.

- (3) The Great Commonwealth and Provincial Governments shall endeavour to provide a holiday from work for all their employees.

- (4) All employers within the Ibrosian Democracy shall be encouraged to allow their employees who are Great Commonwealth Citizens a paid holiday for the duration of the holiday.

 

Section Three – Non-National Holidays

 

1.         - (1) The Prime Minister of Parliament, when he sees fit, may declare holidays by statutory          instrument of this act.

- (2) These holidays as defined within Section 3(1)(1) shall be considered to be public-spirited holidays, and do not carry the status of National Holidays

 

2.         - (1) No non-National Holidays or holidays proclaimed under Section 3(1) shall be granted the status ascribed within Section 2(2)

3          - (1) Efforts shall be made to accommodate differing religious groups within the Ibrosian Democracy.

            - (2) Should a religious group number more than one per cent of the Great Commonwealth population, at least one religious holiday shall be enacted as a National Holiday, as proscribed in Section 2(1) by statutory instrument to this act.

            - (3) In order to understand the religious persuasions of the population, a National Census shall be held at least once every ten years

            - (4) All questions contained within the National Census defined within Section 3(3) on the topic of race, religion, creed and income/employment shall be voluntary. 

 

Section Four – Short Title, Commencement and Extent of this Act

 

(1) This Act may be cited as the Flags and National Emblems Act 2002

(2) This act shall come into effect upon the passing by the éhoi and authorisation by the Returning Officer.

(3) This Act extends to

           

(a)    The Great Commonwealth

(b)    The Province of Nova Britannia

(c)    The Province of Redéke Island and Dependences

 

“Long Live The Great Commonwealth”
